The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) records the number the Electoral College votes from each state, and the number of popular votes cast for those electors. These results were taken from each state's Certificate of Vote. There are a total of 538 electoral votes in the country for all 50 states so that the majority need to elect a president and vice president is 270.  The number of electors from a state is equal to the number of representatives from that state; therefore, the current allocation of electoral votes is based on the 2010 Census and are effective for the 2012, 2016, and 2020 presidential elections.

According to NARA: "Electoral votes are allocated among the states based on the Census. Every state is allocated a number of votes equal to the number of senators and representatives in its U.S. Congressional delegation—two votes for its senators in the U.S. Senate plus a number of votes equal to the number of its members in the U. S. House of Representatives.

Under the 23rd Amendment of the Constitution, the District of Columbia is allocated three electors and treated like a state for purposes of the Electoral College."
